who we serve

Flatiron energy storage systems benefit local communities, property owners, and electricity users in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Communities

Storage is key to enabling clean energy, lowering emissions, and reducing the human impacts of climate change. Energy storage facilities help replace “peaker plants” that burn fossil fuels during peak times. Peaker plants are expensive, inefficient, polluting, and often are located in underserved areas, a key form of environmental injustice.

In addition to reducing emissions, energy storage makes communities more resilient. Storage can help prevent outages during storms or extreme hot or cold weather.

Site owners

Leasing out space for Flatiron energy storage gives land owners a predictable, long-term revenue stream. Flatiron manages and optimizes the storage system during the lease, allowing for minimal owner oversight.

Flatiron partners with a wide range of site owners to find solutions that create local value, from simple and sleek containerized solutions on apple orchards to bespoke warehouse-based designs on industrial sites.

Energy users

Energy storage makes electricity cheaper and more reliable. Utilities (and their customers) pay more for electricity during high demand when expensive fossil fuel plants are used. Flatiron’s systems provide energy during these periods, displacing dirty generation to reduce emissions and keep energy costs down.

Energy storage makes the grid more resilient by helping balance supply and demand. Energy storage also enables a diverse mix of energy sources, like wind and solar, which promote energy independence.

Working with local communities

Community support is critical for every project we work on. Before we seek project approval from local jurisdictions, we meet frequently with local community groups to educate them about our work, answer their questions, and respond to any concerns. We work with communities throughout the development process on potential design improvements,
and we seek out opportunities for community outreach, such as educational or job training programs that will have a lasting impact.
